Prompt: For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

My goal for the SAT is to get a 1400 because I want a good chance at the colleges I like. The schools I’m most interested in are Georgia State, Auburn, and UGA. I like Georgia State because it’s in the city and has a lot of opportunities for internships and getting real world experience. Auburn sounds great because it has a strong community and a fun campus life. UGA is exciting to me because it has really good programs and an active campus where I could get involved in lots of activities.

Prompt: Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

I usually find it a little hard to adjust when we move forward for daylight saving time. Losing an hour of sleep makes me feel more tired than usual for the first few days, and it can be harder to focus in school or get my homework done. I also notice that my mood feels a bit off,  I’m more irritable or restless until my body gets used to the new schedule. On the plus side, having more daylight after school makes it easier to spend time outside or do activities, which helps me feel more awake and active.

Prompt: In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

One artist who has influenced the way I think about life is Bob Dylan. His songs talk a lot about freedom and following your own path, and that made me think about what I really want to do instead of just doing what other people expect. Listening to him makes me feel like it’s okay to be different and to try new things, even if they seem scary. His music reminds me to think for myself and go after my own goals.

Prompt: If you had to describe how you show love using only three objects (for example: a playlist, a hoodie, a late-night snack, a long text message, etc.), what would you choose and why? Explain what each object represents and how it connects to your personality.

If I had to describe how I show love using three objects it would be my playlist, playing any type of game, and eating food. I show love using my playlist because the music I listen to is very important to me, it is something I can be scared to share sometimes since it can be unique or others may not like it, this music helps me get through the day, Another way I show love is through playing games, I say this because I love friendly competition and sharing moments together while playing games, it connects to my personality by being competitive. Lastly, I show love by eating food, What I mean by this is showing people new kind of foods and sharing a meal together. This connects to my personality because I love to share and I am open to new things.

Prompt: Now that you have completed the rhetorical analysis essay, reflect on your growth. Explain how this experience impacted your confidence as a writer and whether you feel prepared to continue analyzing complex speeches and texts in American Literature. Support your reflection with specific references to the writing process.

This experience impacted my confidence as a writer by guiding me through all the steps so I can do it on my own. This allows me to think about the process and stick to it throughout all essays I completely going forward. Without these steps, I would be stuck in a spot where my work can get messy rather than composed all the way throughout.

Prompt: Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).

Coming up with original metaphors was the hardest part for me. It was difficult because I kept thinking of basic or overused ideas, and I didn’t want my writing to sound boring or the same as everyone else’s. Sometimes I would think of something creative, but it didn’t really match what I was trying to describe.

Prompt: Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

What I learned about myself through figurative language was that it can compare to bigger things in my life . What I mean by this Is a metaphor and simile can compare to things that can lead to a bigger picture in life and something that I can relate to.  Figurative language can compare to almost any situation in life making it a lesson for my future. Without figurative language in my life, it would be hard to talk about how I feel and harder to have an understanding.
